(HARRISBURG) – The project to construct a trail bridge over Marsh Creek in Wellsboro Borough will receive $500,000 in state funds, state Senator Cris Dush (R-25) and state Rep. Clint Owlett (R-68) announced today.
“These funds will contribute to the vitality of our community by contributing to an improved quality of life,” Senator Dush said. “It’s important that we create and preserve outdoor areas so we all have the opportunities to step away from our hectic lives and enjoy our region’s beautiful natural resources. I am pleased to be able to work with local leaders including former Senator Joe Scarnati to bring this funding home.”
“This is great news for Wellsboro and surrounding areas as we work to maximize recreational opportunities for the entire region,” Rep. Owlett said. “I was pleased to support this grant funding and am encouraged by the good work and progress being made by our county leaders on the greenway project. While more funding is needed to complete the project, this grant gets us one step closer to that goal.”
The Marsh Creek Greenway project creates a trail bridge, construct a bus stop and pull-off at Pinnacle Towers for those wishing to access the greenway’s Patterson Trailhead facility.
The funds are part of the CFA’s Greenways, Trails and Recreation Funding Program, which is funded by Act 13 of 2012 which established the state’s Marcellus Shale Impact Fee and the Marcellus Legacy Fund. The CFA allocates funds for planning, acquisition, development, rehabilitation and repair of greenways, recreational trails, open space, parks and beautification projects.
